March 2008 BA is pleased to announce two recent promotions. Rebecca Bessey, AICP has been promoted to Principal Planner, and David Campbell has been promoted to Senior Planner.
   
November 2007 Rod Arroyo, AICP presented the Big Beaver Corridor Study at a ULI roundtable forum - Connecting the Dots: Linking Suburban and Urban Town Centers via Transit in Troy, Michigan. 
October 2007 The Big Beaver Corridor Study for the City of Troy captured the Outstanding Plan award from the Michigan Association of Planning.  The City of Adrian's Comprehensive Plan received an Honorable Mention Award.  Both projects were directed by Rod Arroyo, AICP and Rebecca Bessey, AICP.
October 2007 Rod Arroyo, AICP and Rebecca Bessey are conducting a training session on Small Town and Rural Character at the Michigan Association of Planning's Annual Conference in Traverse City.
July 2007 Birchler Arroyo Associates has launched a new subsidiary company - clearzoning.  The mission of clearzoning is to transform zoning ordinances into user-friendly digital documents that are clear and connected.  Rod Arroyo, AICP is the President and David C. May 2007 Rebecca Bessey, AICP conducted an Advanced Site Plan Review Workshop for the Michigan Association of Planning.

April 2007 BA's City of Adrian Comprehensive Plan has been selected for the Vernon Deines Award for Outstanding Small Town or Rural Plan by the American Planning Association's Small Town and Rural Planning Division.

April 2007 Rod Arroyo, AICP will be conducting a training session on Site Plan Review at MSU Extension's Advanced Citizen Planner Academy in East Lansing this June.

February 2007 Rod Arroyo, AICP conducted a training session on Form-Based Codes versus Standard Zoning Ordinances for municipal attorneys at the Dearborn Inn.

July 2005 BA is pleased to welcome  Amy Golke, AICP to our staff.

May 2005 Rod Arroyo and Rebecca Bessey will be speaking at the Michigan Society of Planning's Site Plan Review Advanced Workshop in Ann Arbor on May 19, 2005.
 
   
April 2005 BA is pleased to announce that Jocelyn H. Wenk has been promoted to Associate Planner.
   
May 2005 BA Vice President Rod Arroyo will be speaking on Contract Zoning at the Michigan Society of Planning Spring Institute on May 5, 2005.
January 2005 Senior Planner Heidi Hannan, AICP is now a qualified instructor of the Michigan Society of Planning's New Official Training Program.

August 2004

President David Birchler has been named Outstanding Professional Planner by the Michigan Society of Planning (MSP). David will be recognized at the MSP annual conference Awards Luncheon to be held Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Devos Place and Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids.
August 2004 Rebecca Bessey, AICP has been promoted to Senior Planner.  Rebecca recently served as project manager for the City of Tecumseh Comprehensive Plan.
April 2004 Vice President Rod Arroyo recently completed an article on "Development Agreements," which  appeared in the  Michigan Planner insert "Smart GrowthTactics."
April 2004 David Campbell has joined the staff as an Associate.  
December 11, 2003 Katherine Wyrosdick, AICP has been promoted to Principal Planner.  Previously she served as Senior Planner for Birchler Arroyo Associates, Inc.

October 24, 2003 Rod Arroyo, Vice President, was a speaker at the Michigan Society of Planning's Annual Conference.  He participated in the "Making Things Work Between the Developer and Community" session.

June 30, 2003 BA is pleased to announce that Heidi M. Hannan, AICP has been promoted to Senior Planner.

June 2, 2003 Birchler Arroyo is pleased to announce that Jocelyn M. Hain has joined the team as a Staff Planner.   Jocelyn has a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Michigan.

 

April 16-18, 2003 BA Vice President Rod Arroyo participated in two sessions aimed at providing input to Governor Granholm's Land Use Leadership Council.  One session was facilitated by Stuart Meck from APA's Growing Smart project.   The second was sponsored by Michigan State University's Urban and Regional Planning Program.
January 3, 2003 BA Vice President Rod Arroyo will be conducting Access Management Workshops on behalf of the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan Society of Planning as follows:

August 23, 2002 The "Bridgewater Township Master Plan" has been selected for a STaR Award for Excellence by the American Planning Association's Small Town and Rural Planning Division.    Rod Arroyo, BA Vice President, was the Project Director and Rebecca Bessey, Associate Planner, was the Project Planner.
August 5, 2002 Rod Arroyo and Rebecca Bessey will be speaking at the Michigan Society of Planning's Annual Conference on October 3, 2002.  The session is entitled "Empowering Your Community - Using the Internet to Inform, Engage, and Educate the Public."

 

August 1, 2002 Rebecca Bessey, Associate Planner, is now a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.

BA is pleased to announce that Carolyn Gillespie has joined our staff as a Staff Planner.  Carolyn has a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan and a Master of Urban Planning degree, also from the University of Michigan.

January 31,2002 This year's St. Clair County Winter Training Seminar for Planning Commissioners will once again feature BA's Rod Arroyo.  He will conduct a 2-hour Planning Commissioners Training Seminar that will cover new amendments to State Planning Statutes, on-going responsibilities of Planning Commissions, and planning tools & techniques.  The seminar is scheduled for February 28, 2002 in Port Huron.

January 2, 2002 Vice President Rod Arroyo to conduct Access Management Seminars at three locations.   In conjunction with the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan Society of Planning, Rod Arroyo will present a 6-hour hands-on training session on "Reducing Traffic Congestion and Improving Traffic Safety through Access Management."  Sessions will be held in Flint January 10, 2002, Clinton Township January 22, 2002, and Mt. Pleasant on January 24, 2002.

November 20, 2001 William A. Stimpson, PE is now a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) through the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
