About the DDA
Shelby Township created a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in the Spring of 2006. The purpose of a DDA is to promote economic growth in a business district that has experienced decreasing property values. Establishing a DDA allows tax increases within the district to be captured, and used for improvement projects necessary to support reinvestment.

DDA Board Members
The Shelby DDA is led by residents, property owners
and business owners of the Distirct:
 -
Sara Lentz, Chair (Resident)
 - Barbara Keil, Vice Chair (Business Owner, Nitsche's
   Market)
 - Paul Gramer, Secretary (Business Owner, Gramer
   Funeral Home)
 - Bill Hellebuyck (Business Owner, Hellebuyck's)
 - Rick Lemanski (Resident)
 - Ralph (Skip) Maccarone (Township Supervisor)
 - Lisa Manzella (Township Board, Business Owner and
    Resident)
 - Jeff Swartz (Business Owner, Swartz Distributing)
 - Doug Wozniak (Business Owner, Attorney)

DDA District
The DDA District includes properties along the Van Dyke Corridor from 25 Mile Road to just south of 21 Mile Road, including the ROW between 25 and 26 Mile Roads. The District Map presented in the Plan reflects three distinct Planning Areas within the District. The Plan supports a unified appearance throughout the length of the corridor, with unique identities given to each Planning Area.

DDA Plan
The DDA Board created a Development and Tax Increment Financing Plan for the Van Dyke Road corridor, which was adopted by the Township in December of 2006. The Plan examines the relationship of district with surrounding land uses, the condition of infrastructure and redevelopment opportunities. Recommendations target improvements to increase investment, and economic development within the district.
