The planning process for Phase 2 began in July 2009. The draft Action Goals will be available in January 2010.

General Management Plans
Underway/Completed
In December 2009, The GMPs for Grand Mere State Park, Holland State Park, Saugatuck Dunes State Park, Warren Dunes State Park are nearing completion and are awaiting final approvals.

General Management Planning

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Division (DNR-PRD) is developing General Management Plans (GMPs). GMPs are long-range planning documents that depict a park’s importance in terms of natural resources, historic resources, recreational and educational opportunities, and economic value. A key aspect of a GMP is the Management Zone Plan, which reflects the land preservation goals and recreation programming for different areas within each park. Management Zones are developed based upon input from DNR experts,key stakeholders and the community.

Other Parks & Recreation Division Planning Initiatives

Pinckney State Recreation Area and Waterloo State Recreation Area
Birchler Arroyo Associates, Inc. is assisting the DNR-PRD with a trail inventory for these two state recreation areas. The results of the inventory and mapping will be used to assess trail suitability and density for a variety of users.

Negwegon, Thompson's Harbor, Rockport (NRTH)
The DNR Parks and Recreation Division recently completed a Phase I General Management Plan process for Negwegon State Park, Rockport Property and Thompson's Harbor State Park. This project included a Regional Assessment, which evaluated the merits of managing and marketing the three sites as a unit. These plans can be viewed on our file sharing site.
